How To Be A Time Efficient Blogger?

by Guest Author

This is a guest post by Bruce Stevens. No matter what focus you have in your life or whats your business endeavors are, time is your most valuable resource.  You can’t see it, touch it or feel it, but if you don’t use every minute of it, it’s lost forever. Time is a great equalizer in which the rich, the poor, the successful blogger and the failure all have the same amount of time each day.  So whats the difference?  Well it is obvious that the difference between success and failure is in how you use the time you are given.

Think of lost time as lost income as well as lost opportunity.  Every hour you are not productive is an opportunity to build your business which will never come again. I don’t mean to imply that you should work constantly and not leave time for rest, relaxation and your own private life and family life.  Life can’t be all about work with no time for play.  The trick is to develop a workable pattern of more efficient use of time and for this, you need tools.High Expectations vs. High Results

We, as bloggers, usually begin with high hopes and are so highly motivated to achieve that we overtax ourselves quickly and must learn immediately how to manage the work more efficiently or burn out and fail.

My website does product reviews and I am determined to give my readers the best information possible on every review.  Recently a reader wrote in to say the beloved family dog had disappeared and the effort to locate and bring the animal home had caused great angst and much expense.  He needed information on tracking devices to avoid this experience in the future. There were so many options available that it took a great deal of research but in my opinion, the best GPS Tracking Device currently available is the Garmin Astro 220 Dog Tracking Bundle.  In fact I was so impressed with the features it offered, I made a comprehensive review and posted it on my blog for the benefit of all my readers.

But this took a great deal of time. In fact, I had used so much time that other important tasks had been put on the ‘back burner’ and then I had to play ‘catch up’’. This was an eye opener and I realized I must get myself organized to avoid this type of problem in the future.

Plan the Work & Work the Plan

Before I went any further, I decided to ‘fall back and punt’ so to speak – I suspended my content writing and spent the time instead laying out an organizational plan for more productive use of my time.  In doing so, I discovered some really great tools of the bloggers trade which you can use as well to help better manage your time. They are…

           1. EverNote.com

This is a web based service which allows you to copy text, audio files, videos and almost anything else to it.  If I had known about this site when I was researching the Garmin Astro 220 Dog Tracking Bundle, I could have saved hours of time by keeping all my notes on a given project in one place rather than continually entering new URLs, searching for saved photos, opening new documents, etc.  You can consolidate all your resources for easy access.

There are other similar sites, but I think EverNote is easier to use. “Take note of everything” is their tagline and it’s an apt description of their free (basic) service.

           2. PageLeap.com

When you consider all the time you spend daily on repetitive tasks like log-ins on the same sites, you will see the advantage in using a tool like the free ‘start page’ service offered by PageLeap.com.  This site is so much better than the standard bookmarking.  It offers up to 20 different categories and no limit links in each category.  It has a much friendlier layout than regular bookmarks and features an ‘all-in-one’ capability which avoids having to open a new window on each visit.

This saves you a considerable amount of time as you go to one page instead of a separate page for WordPress, keyword tools, web hosting service, social media and whatever else you utilize on a daily basis. There is also another great feature which will help keep you motivated. If you use ‘daily affirmations’, the PageLeap.com site will keep your goals in your view all the time by rolling them across the page.

By using the EverNote site for content storage and PageLeap for navigation, you will be able to use your time much more efficiently, allowing more free time for yourself.

           3. Be a Guest Blogger

The third suggestion is to get better productivity from your blog posts by doing some guest blogging.  When you realize that Panda looks at the anchor text in your blogs which points to your site, you will see how you need to give your backlinks more authority to guarantee better results in the SERP.

In the example of the Garmin Astro 220 GPS Dog Collar, I found several PR4-PR6 sites to accept guest content which allowed me to accelerate the quality backlink process. I used the dog tracker article and rewrites which were very well received.  (Comluv.com is one high ranking site which you can use to get solid authority anchor text backlinking to you).  If you can get accepted by several such sites, you can use the same content by rewriting it with a different angle so it is unique – this will allow you to use the time it took to research and write one article for multiple sites.  This means a much greater time/productivity ratio.

Certainly there are other tools and methods to help you be a more efficient blogger, but these three will get you started on the right path.  As you practice, you will get better and better at it and by organizing your time you will be surprised at how much more quickly you are able to create and post your content.
